MACSEM 2008 Conference was held at
Columbia University, March 29 - 30, 2008
- Aaron Fox was the Chair of the Program and Local Arrangements Commitees, and featured a Keynote Lecture entitled "What
Do Ethnomusicologists Study? An Old Question for a New Century" by Adelaida Reyes. Among the other highlights was a concert by Lucia
Pulido and Cosmas Magaya with Paul Berliner. The complete program and other

- The 2008 Pantaleoni Prize for the best student paper was awarded to Jennifer Ryan (University of Pennsylvania) for her paper "'Beale Street Blues'?: Reconsidering Musical Tourism in Memphis, Tennessee."
- Adelaida Reyes (Professor Emeritus, New Jersey City University) was awarded the 2008 MACSEM Lifetime Acheivement Award
- Colter Harper (University of Pittsburgh) was elected as the new
MACSEM Student Representative
